Welcome to and Welcome back

15 September, 2009

A very warm welcome to new SCIT students starting at the University this week, and of course to returning students back from the Summer break. It’s a busy time of year for everyone so this is just a short post about the new “Skills for Learning” webpages on the Learning Centre’s website. This has been revised and updated over the Summer and is now a one-stop place for study skills advice and appointments, details of this semester’s InfoBites workshops, full information about the University’s referencing systems, and the EndNote support webpages. Harvard referencing has been updated to include an example list of different sources which will hopefully make the system easier to follow.

As always, your feedback on the Learning Centre website is welcomed. Please use the online form for comments and suggestions.

University Harvard in EndNote Web

2 June, 2008

EndNote Web

The University Harvard referencing style is now available in the list of styles in EndNote Web. This means that you can now format your references in the University style without needing to access the on-campus EndNote program.

For more information about EndNote and details of how to sign up for an EndNote Web account, please visit the EndNote pages of the Learning Centre website or contact me for details.

EndNote workshops

2 April, 2008

Due to a large number of requests for help with EndNote, we are running EndNote workshops each Thursday lunchtimes 1pm-2pm for the next five weeks starting tomorrow (from 2nd April until 1st May) at Harrison Learning Centre. There’s no need to book, just come along if you are interested.

We will also be running InfoBites workshops on Tuesday lunchtimes, please keep an eye on the Information Skills webpages for an up-to-date version of the calendar. If you are a Google Calendar user, you may also wish to add the InfoBites calendar to keep updated with all the InfoBites sessions.

EndNote

Struggling to keep track of all your references? Losing marks for your referencing? Botching your bibliographies?

Then using EndNote could be the answer! EndNote is a program that enables you to store and organise your references, insert citations into Word, and format your bibliography in the University Harvard style.

Learning Centre staff run a series of EndNote workshops as part of our information skills workshops, InfoBites. The next one is *tomorrow* in MD212b at 1pm. There’s no need to book so why not come along and say goodbye to bad bibliographies?

Organising your references with EndNote

29 October, 2007

EndNote logo

EndNote is referencing software which can help you store and manage your references. As well as providing a library to store all your references together, you can also use it to insert and format references in your assignments in Microsoft Word.

EndNote 9 is available on all student PCs at the University for you to use and you can also use EndNote Web which can be accessed from home or work (or anywhere else!) as well as at the University.

The InfoBites session this week (Wednesday, 1-2pm, MD212b) will cover the basics of EndNote, please feel free to come along. If you can’t make it and would like to know more about EndNote please check the self help guides or ask a librarian at your nearest Learning Centre.

Access to EndNote off-campus

7 March, 2007

In addition to the EndNote software which can only be used on campus, it is now possible to access EndNote Web. This gives full access to EndNote off campus. Instructions for using EndNote Web and obtaining a password can be found here. Comments on the service are welcomed and can be sent to Resource Librarian, Vince McNutt.

Training workshops on using EndNote and EndNote Web can be provided by the Learning Centre, please get in touch if you are interested.
